Hotelier helps Glasgow school to 'take its marks'
A Glasgow primary school is enjoying access to a unique health and wellbeing package thanks to the UK’s leading hotel management company.
RBH, which has an office at Brand Street in Glasgow, visited nearby Lorne Street Primary School to present the children and teachers with a ‘Take Your Marks’ subscription.
‘Take Your Marks’ was set up by friends Alan Clark and Craig Dunlop to help improve productivity in schools and workplaces by encouraging wellbeing and physical activity breaks.
Designed to ensure a focus on physical and mental wellbeing in the workplace – and at school – ‘Take Your Marks’ provides readily accessible exercises to use during short breaks to ensure employees and pupils can re-energise and become happier, healthier and more productive.
And Lorne Street Primary School has become the first in the UK to benefit from a brand new corporate gifting scheme, thanks to RBH being offered the opportunity to choose one school to receive an additional package to benefit young children when purchasing its own corporate subscription.
RBH is rolling out the programme to benefit employees across its portfolio of more than 45 hotels, as well as its central support offices in Glasgow and London – and its introduction comes hot on the heels of the hotel management company signing a Time to Change Mental Health Pledge, solidifying its commitment to employee wellbeing.
Martin MacPhail, Director of Human Resources at RBH, said:
"It was wonderful to be given the opportunity to benefit Lorne Street Primary School through the Take Your Marks programme. We’re sure it will positively impact the pupils and teachers.
As a business, we’re very focused on employee wellbeing and creating a culture that promotes ways of looking after physical and mental health – especially given the fact that we work in an industry that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
I’m sure ‘Take Your Marks’ will have a positive effect on our colleagues across the portfolio, and we look forward to hearing how the children at Lorne Street Primary School get on with the subscription.”
Alan Clark, founder of Take Your Marks, said:
"We at Take Your Marks are absolutely delighted to be able to facilitate this partnership between RBH and Lorne Street Primary School.
The school is the first in the country to benefit from our ‘buy one, gift one’ scheme, which sees a school receive free access to our physical activity and PE resources when a business takes on a corporate wellbeing license. It’s our mission as a business to offer free physical activity resources to 8,000 UK schools over the next three years – and this partnership between RBH and Lorne Street Primary School marks the first step in a very exciting journey.”
Karen Marigo, teacher at Lorne Street Primary School, said:
"We are delighted that RBH nominated our school to receive the resource from Take Your Marks. We are looking forward to using it and engaging our pupils in short health and wellbeing sessions which focus upon movement, strength, mindfulness and social wellbeing to energise them throughout the school day.
We would like to thank RBH and look forward to any further opportunities to work with them in the future.”
